Interested in applying for UM Housing?

Before You Begin Your Housing Application

If you are a new student make sure to inform Admissions that you intend to enroll.

You can do this by logging into your admitted student portaland then tell us your enrollment plans.

New Students and Transfer Students


Eligibility to Apply

Note: Only students who have been officially accepted to the University of Montana can apply for housing.

If You’ve Been Accepted for Spring 2026 or Fall 2027

To apply for housing:

  • Click the UMT Login link on the right side of the screen.
  • You will need your NetID and password to log in.

Need help with your NetID?

  • Use the NetID Lookup page to find your NetID.
  • First-time Logging in? If you have not logged into a NetID service such as GrizPortal or UM Connect Student Email, your initial password will be the last 6 digits of your student ID (790 number), which can be found on your UM acceptance letter.

Forgot your password?
Use the Password Reset page or contact the IT Help Desk at (406) 243-4357.

If You Haven’t Been Accepted Yet

You will need to wait until you have been accepted and have received your Net ID and password before you can apply for housing.

If You Started an Application But Haven’t Finished

  • Click the UMT Login link at the right of the screen.
  • You will be taken to the last page of your in-progress application.

Returning Students


To apply for housing:

  • Click the UMT Login link on the right side of the screen.
  • You will need your NetID and password to log in.

Faculty or Staff Housing Requests


Incoming faculty or staff will need to submit a myHousingPortal Account Request form to gain access to the housing applications.

Available Housing Applications Include:


Residence Halls

  • The housing application for the 2026-2027 Academic Year opens October 1st 2025!
  • Available to single students
  • Offer a variety of room types doubles, singles, triples, 3-person pods, and 4-person pods

Lewis and Clark

  • Application is open year round
  • Offers furnished 2- and 3-bedroom apartments for single students with 60+ earned credits or students with 24-59 credits who have at least a 2.5 GPA and no conduct issues

University Villages

  • Application is open year round
  • Offers four village areas: Craighead, Sisson, Elliott and Toole Village
  • Offers unfurnished apartments ranging from studios to 4 bedrooms for students with dependents, undergraduate students with more than 30 credits, graduate students, and University of Montana faculty/staff
